SOS Written Submission on ICASA Amendment Act

parliment
The SOS Coalition handed over its written submission in respect of the ICASA Amendment Act to the Minister of Communications, today.

In line with our press statement on 27 November, SOS resounds the call for the Minister to withdraw the Bill because:

• It contains a number of unconstitutional proposals which, SOS believes will undermine the independence of ICASA;
• It contains a number of proposals which directly conflict with or will render various other legislative provisions impracticable; and
• It proposes to make substantive changes to the ICASA Act which necessarily require wide and transparent public consultation in the upcoming ICT Policy Review.

The SOSCoalition believes that the strengthening of ICASA is critical and, therefore, calls on the Department of Communications to prioritise and focus on its ICT Policy Review process and for it to look at ways to strengthen ICASA through this process.
